The Western Red Cedar is known as our Tree of Life. In a way, our Tree of Life is also non binary. It’s monoecious and produces both male and female cones. This series includes my native language Kwak’wala which has less than 200 fluent speakers left. Our two spirit words are ‘Babaḵwa̱mala', which roughly translates to ‘Woman inside of a Man’s body’; and ‘Tsatsadaḵa̱mala' which is ‘Man inside a Woman’s body’. These photos were taken in Pacific Northwest of Canada.

Print will be Shipped after or available for collection at the Meanjin Art Showcase (September 20th 2026).
Frame is not available for international shipping (to prevent breakage) but postage is included in the price. Express post available for additional cost.
Shipping is included in the price, however if the location is outside of Australia the print will not include the frame (to avoid breakage).
